NGC 1023 is a mag. 10 lenticular galaxy with a rapidly rotating core suggesting a very large black hole.

NGC 1023 is at 11 Mpc or 36 Mly  .

Burkert, et.al. (2005) suggest that NGC 1023 was a spiral galaxy that collided with a smaller companion causing
a transformation into a lenticular.
